Marketing through Social Network

A promotion tactic which is used by many different film companies, is marketing through the use of social media, through different social networking sites such as, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc. the reason they use this is so that their film becomes as well-known as possible and give snippets of the film to the audience so they become more interesting also it is the tactic of drip feeding information in small amounts so the audience know about the film but don’t know the whole story and lure them in to watch the film.  Such as films have their own #Wolfofwallstreet they use this so people can talk amongst themselves on twitter and express their feelings about the film almost like reviews.

The use of titles

We wanted to give our trailer a chilling feel to it to really make the viewer scared but to carry on watching but also understand the story at the same time so at the time we just had the full trailer with out the titles in it and we decided to get the point across to the viewer what is happening and what kind of trouble these kids are in we decided to add different titles slides placed at convenient points of the trailer when they were relevant.  We also incorporated ED at the end of every title slide so they were all associated.

First Title:
This is the first title you will see in the trailer this appears just before there is a scene of a door slamming shut then it fades to black and this appears

Second Title:
This is the second title which the viewer will see in the trailer we thought it would be affective to put "Hunted" in the trailer because it then emphasizes the fact that they are being chased and there not alone this title screen is brought in just after the viewer gets the first view of the villain.

Third Title:
This title screen is used near the start of trailer it is used just after the background voice has expressed the warning we thought we would include this title screen to get the point across that these teenagers have gone against the warning and gone in anyway
Ending title:

This is the very last title used in the film originally the title was just survived we thought it gave to much away by saying they did survive so to add more mystery we included a question mark to make the viewer think do they survive or don't they I want to find out it is a tactic of luring the viewer to come and what the film, also we made the question make the colour red to give it the feel of bloody horror.

Music for Trailer: Asylum

This is the music we have chosen for our trailer this music will be played throughout the trailer and fade at certain parts, we all agreed as a group that this should be our music for this because it is mainly slow and has fast paced parts to it it gives it a creepy dark feel to the trailer because it is a twisted version of a children's nursery rhyme.

The difference between Red Band and Green Band

At the start of our film we decided to include a red band trailer at the start, this was partly our fault because we had not fully researched in what types of film fall into these certain categories so after watching certain films and also what had to be in a film to fall into either a green band or a red band, we watched our film closely over and over again ticking of anything we seen would push it into the red band or whether it was in the green band after we had watched our trailer several time it conclude that our trailer was certainly not a red band trailer and definitely fell into the green band trailer.

Green Band Trailer: Suitable for all audiences

Red Band Trailer: Adult content not suitable for children

Movie Magazine: Photoshoot

I had taken these pictures for the front cover of my movie magazine some of them are different because I wanted to experiment then later on put them on the cover and see which suited the best.

The Strangers Trailer

The Strangers is the main film which we have based our 'Asylum' this because of the story line as the first part of the trailer shows it starts of very calm as a new married couple moves into their new home and they are planning a romantic night in as it cuts from the male character setting up a candle lit dinner and fades into the female character taking a bath with rose petals.  Then it cuts back to when he first proposed to her they mainly use slow transition fades to give it the romantic feel.  The suddenly the hole atmosphere of the trailer suddenly changes you can tell this because the music changes.  Then it informs the viewer that the film is based on a true event it then gives the feel that what happened in this film can happen and actually has happened in real life and this gives it the more dramatic feel to the trailer.  It starts to have title slides with text are to get the point across to the viewer, a very common convention is used they hear a noise outside so she looks outside and there is no one there just the sings moving in the wind, then the trailer starts to become darker the lighting decreases slightly, the intensity starts to increase it starts to build up when she goes and looks the door because she thinks something is going to happen, the most iconic part of this trailer is when the female protagonists is standing alone in the kitchen unaware of her surroundings then out of the darkness in the background a figure with a mask on appears this adds the horror to the trailer this is truly creepy and completely unexpected it also links back to the title of the film title “The Strangers” as in this person in the background is a stranger in their house, after this scene has happened the hole intensity of the trailer and also the music changes to more fast pace as in the heart is pumping quicker and due to this is where the “Villains” are introduced more in the trailer, suddenly the music cuts for a short silence this is effective because it leaves the viewer on the edge of their seat because they do not know what is about to happen, the quickly you here an old record player begins to play and it is a stuck record that keeps playing the same line and it gets faster as the events become more terrifying and deadly and as this happens the scenes get shorter and the trailer gets quicker so only the viewer gets quick snippets and not the whole thing because there would be no point watching the film then, towards the end it and at the end of most horror trailers it has a jump scare to truly freak the audience out however the strangers trailer have adapted this instead of a jump scare they have a slow scare were the last scene is a small girl with a mask on come out of the darkness this is just as effective as a jump scare because it adds again that creepy feeling to the film and because it is a child it also makes it scary.

Movie Poster Research

This shows a collection of different movie posters that are very similar to my own of having the main character the in the middle of the posters and are the main image of the poster and on some of them the character is looking over either left or right shoulder showing part of the face and this is what I have tried to include in my own poster.

Marketing Campaign: Devils Due

The genre I have chosen for my media product is Horror so another marketing campaign I have chosen is for a new film which is released on the 17th January 2014 which is Devils Due, the production team has come up with its own original idea to promote the film.

Devils Due has a new marketing technique to produce its own film they have used a viral marketing technique, the film is based around a couple who's new born child is possessed by the devil, so the to promote this film into the real life they created a remote control pram within it there is a mechanical baby, and it is set for when some one comes over to see what is in it springs up and is used as a jump scare, the artistic work on the baby's face is done to show that it looks possessed.

Changing the Film title: Glenburn to Asylum

Previous we had came up with the idea of calling our film 'Glenburn' due to the fact that our location which was a school in Skelmersdale, we decided to name it after the school however when we went for our meeting with the head teacher and the site manager to approve that it was fine to film there, it was brought to attention that they did not want the school name associated with the title for our film, only because if some one who wanted to view the school searched it on YouTube they did not want our film the first think people to see and take the attention of the actual school, so after this feedback we had to come up with a name for our film, so we had to brain storm our new ideas, we finally came to the decision that we wanted a short title that would stay in the mind of the viewer and was not complicated so similar to our first idea so we because our film is based around four teenager becoming trapped within a old Mental Institute, the first thought that came into the groups mind was Asylum this was quick simple and not complicated so we created the title in our selected font and it suck so we changed the name of the film due to the schools request.

Distrubtion

The History of the film industry is related through the different achievements collected by the producers, directors, writers and the performers.  The stages of actually making the films and the production stages have always been show as a glamorous pursuit.
When it comes to our appreciation and also understanding of how the film is shaped to us through our different experiences at the cinema.  Through the contrast and also the distribution the third party of the film will supply the chain, this is formally known as 'the invisible art' this process is known to those within the industry of film.
However distribution argues the point of being the most important part of the film industry, this is were when the film is completed it is brought to life and then able to connect with the audience.

Distribution is more about releasing and also sustaining the films in the market place.  Within Hollywood and also the different forms of the film industry, the different phrases of production, distribution and exhibition work effectively when 'Vertically integrated' this is were the three stages will be seen as part of a larger process and this is under control of one company.  Within the UK distribution is focused on the marketing side and the sustaining a global product within local markets.
Vertical Integration is commonly not used in the independent film sector, this is because producers tend not to have long term economic links with distributors, this then means they will have no formal connections with the exhibitors.  Distribution is necessarily a collaborative process with the pig-in-the-middle, then when it comes to require the different materials and the rights of the producer and the cooperation of the exhibitor then it is to show the film in the best way possible.  The it is split into three sections Licensing, marketing and logistics.
